Abstract

1. As a result of plastic deformation during abrasive wear, a number of structural changes occur in steels which culminate in the formation of a fragmented structure and nucleation of cracks generated by the formation of the wear products. 2. Formation of structural defects due to plastic deformation helps increase wear resistance under conditions of abrasive wear by sliding but, under conditions of wear by abrasive impact, it decreases wear resistance.
