Abstract

Two bituminous coal chars of the same rank were gasified at atmospheric pressure with CO 2 at 980°C. Porosities and reaction rates were measured at different degrees of carbon burn-off. Comparison of changes in porosity and reactivity with per cent burn-off indicates that total surface area is a significant parameter for reactivity but cannot be regarded as the major controlling factor.
