Abstract

Critical stress intensity coefficients are physically based quantitative characteristics of the crack resistance of alloys and are regarded as a measure of resistance to fracture. The authors discuss the effect of structural factors on the fracture toughness (parameter K sub Ic) of structural steels and indicate the principal problems requiring further research.
