Abstract

This paper presents a typological study of the ecological unit of mountain beech forests in the area of Radava mountain. The aim of this research is to present the basic characteristics of these forests ecosystems through the process of defining forest types. The results will help in defining the forest type and according to the results of this research will create conditions for a more realistic definition of goals in planning the management of these and other forest ecosystems.

Introduction

The forest is one of the most complex dynamic systems in the country and as a naturally renewable resource has a great significance for human society. Beech forests in the Republic of Srpska have a marked horizontal and vertical distribution. High forests with natural regeneration, which are stateowned occupy about 47% of the area. Pure beech forests cover an area of 1​ 74.000 ha, or about 38% of the total growing stock of high forests. In the Logging industry Birač Vlasenica, the total area of high forests with natural regeneration is 22,511.78 hectares or 56.13% of the total forest-economic area. High beech forests spread over 17,027.85 hectares or 75.63% of the total area of forests with natural regeneration. In the high forests of beech, beech has a share of 85% or 3,850,338 m3
