Abstract
Solid state reaction technique was employed to synthesize a series of Sm3+ ions doped and undoped Mg0.5Ca0.5TiO3:xSm3+ nanoparticles. The structural, photoluminescence and morphological properties of the Mg0.5Ca0.5TiO3:xSm3+(x = 0.0, 1.0, 1.25, 1.5, 1.75 and 2.0 mol%) samples were studied. The crystallographic and rietveld refinement analysis of the samples were done which gives the crystallite size to be 28 nm and the lattice parameters, a = 5.4439 Å, b = 7.650 Å and c = 5.3872Å. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) micrographs show agglomerated spheroidal grains due to the high sintering temperature. The emission peak in red region at 657 nm was observed for the excitation wave length of 220 nm, resulting from the electric dipole transition (4G5/2 to 6H7/2) of Sm3+ ions.
