Abstract
The paper reports the structural and optical studies of Mn doped SnO2 nanoparticles. The samples were prepared by chemical co-precipitation technique with three Mn compositions (1, 3 and 5 mol%). Studies by x-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy revealed the tetragonal SnO2 structure with average particle size in the range of 7-12 nm. The UV-Vis-DRS spectroscopy revealed the blue shift in the band gap energy. The band gap has increased with Mn concentration which can either be due to the quantum confinement or due to charge transfer transitions between Mn and conduction or valence bands. Results on the structural and optical properties are reported.
