Abstract
Adsorption of CO 2 at 295 K on a variety of microporous carbons was analyzed using the Dubinin—Radushkevich (D-R) equation. Four types of deviation from linear D-R plots were identified, three of which are related to the micropore structure of the carbons. (1) Type A, negative deviations at low pressures, is due to activated diffusion caused by narrowing of micropore entrances upon heat treatment. (2) Type A′, negative deviations at high pressures, is found for carbons having a narrow range of micropore sizes. 3. Type B, curved D-R plots, is found for activated carbons with a wide range of micropore sizes. (4) Positive deviations from the D-R equation at very low pressures are found when the adsorption process is dominated by surface heterogeneity rather than volume filling of micropores.
