Abstract

The choice of a feasible numerical method for the solution of an integral-algebraic equation (IAE) requires knowledge about its index and solvability. In this paper, the Σ-method for structural analysis of differential–algebraic equation systems (DAEs) is extended to analyze the structure of a linear IAE. Its index and solvability are determined based on the sparsity pattern of the IAE and the ν-smoothing property of a Volterra integral operator.
