Abstract

The effect of mild (deuterium and methyl) substitution on the proton ENDOR spectra in the lowest nπ* triplet state of p-benzoquinone is reported and analyzed. The conclusion is that, as recently suggested by Merienne-Lafore and Trommsdorff, p-benzoquinone in its lowest triplet state is best described as a dimer.
