Abstract

The strontium content in scales of exceptionally large resident‐coloured individual brown trout in a small stream was not higher than in smaller residents and well below the Sr content of scales from sympatric sea migrants. Therefore, it is concluded that adult migrants and stream residents can be distinguished safely by their coloration.
