Abstract

A typical case of intestinal infection caused by Strongyloides stercoralis highlights an immunocompromised state. We report a case of 65-year-old immunocompetent male who presented with mild abdominal pain and high peripheral eosinophil count, following which parasitological examination of the stool sample was done. The examination revealed rhabditiform larvae of S. stercoralis, for which he was prescribed ivermectin. Due to lack of clinical suspicion or the disease's many manifestations, strongyloidiasis is frequently misdiagnosed or the diagnosis gets delayed.
