Abstract

Selective optical excitation study of Nd 3+ ions in weakly doped CsCdBr 3 crystals have been made in the vicinity of the 4I 9 2 → 4G 5 2 transition. Emission spectra have been correlated to the excitation satellite lines and a new class of Nd-Nd ion pairs is shown off by their time evolution analysis. The energy transfer between neodymium in these pairs is very efficient and in more concentrated crystals they can play an important role in the optical properties of this material.
