Abstract

We consider Susskind fermions on a d-dimensional lattice interacting with U( n) or SU( n) gauge fields at finite temperature. We calculate the order parameter 〈[ χχ] p〉 and the thermal Wilson loop 〈 L W〉 by expanding in powers of 1/ d and 1/ g 2. Working to order 1/ g 2 we determine a necessary condition for the occurrence of a phase transition. Our mathematical methods consist in calculating a generating function at g 2 = ∞ from which relevant contributions are obtained by suitable differentiations.
