Introduction

The prevalence of hypertension (the major risk factor for stroke) in Mozambique increased from 33.1% in 2005 to 38.9% in 2014/2015, awareness and control remained at very low levels (15% and 3%, respectively). In 2016, the global lifetime risk (LtR) of stroke from the age of 25 years onward was 24.9% [1]. The prevalence of hypertension in Mozambique increased from 33.1% in 2005 to 38.9% in 2014/2015, awareness remained at very low levels (15%) [3]. Despite this increase in hypertension levels, only 7% of the hypertensive patients were in treatment, and control was only achieved in 3.2% [3]
