Abstract

Dr. Vicki Noble: Today’s case is that of a 25-year-old woman who presented to the emergency department (ED) complaining of a cough and shortness of breath with exertion. She was seen by her primary care physician (PCP) 1 month prior, at which time she reported being short of breath after running for the bus and climbing stairs. She also noted a cough after exertion. She never had any previous difficulty with these activities and had no history of asthma or reactive airway disease. She noted some sinus drainage at that visit and was treated with a 1-week course of erythromycin, which she said improved her symptoms but did not resolve them.
