Abstract
1) Isolation frequency of SM-resistant S. aureus in field survey has been decreasing year by year.2) SM-resistant strains which had been stocked in our laboratory for long months, often lost their SM-resistance. Meso-SM-resistance was more unstable than high SM-resistance.3) Mutation frequency from sensitivity to SM-resistance was examined for 22 strains. High-resistant colonies were more frequently isolated than meso-resistant ones.4) Genetically, high SM-resistance is rather stable and often links to TC, high PC and SA resistance.
