Abstract
The role of mammalian RAD52 has been mysterious due to the lack of a strong DNA repair phenotype of RAD52-deficient cells. In this issue of Molecular Cell, studies by Bhowmick etal. (2016) and Sotiriou etal. (2016) reveal an unexpected role for RAD52 in promoting DNA synthesis following replication stress.
