A detailed catalog of tumor-infiltrating T cells across 16 different cancer types has revealed a specific gene activity pattern linked to resistance to checkpoint inhibitors. The study introduces the concept of TSTR cells, characterized by a stress response state and the elevated expression of heat shock genes, but experts debate their uniqueness and whether they warrant classification as a new cell type.
