Abstract
A theoretical model similar to that used by Miklowitz is assumed for the fracture of uniaxial tensile specimens. For this model both symmetric and antisymmetric pulses are propagated away from the fracture zone. The theoretical predictions for surface strain are found to agree remarkably well with experimental results.
