Abstract

Multiple symmetrical radial inner cracks in the thick walled cylinders are studied. The stress intensity factors (SIF) due to two kinds of internal pressure and full autofrettage process have been calculated respectively for a wide range of crack configuration parameters using finite element analysis, and a group of formulae for calculating the SIF have been obtained by means of finite element results. The maximum difference between the formulae and the finite element result is less than 5%.
