Abstract

Mode I and mode II stress intensity factors are found for a slant straight crack buried in an elastic half-plane. Loading is in the form of point forces applied to the crack faces so that the solutions given can then be used as Green's functions in solving half-plane problems where the surface load is arbitrary. The form of the solutions is appropriate only for cases in which the crack remains open, though with modification interfacial Coulomb friction may be accommodated.
