Abstract

The strength of the elastic stress fields next to crack tip is usually measured by the stress intensity factor (SIF). Unfortunately, There will be different stress singular fields next to corner cracks tip of the special-shaped pipe under earthquake load. J2 integral can only solve the SIFs of same singular stress fields and cannot satisfactorily guide the anti-crack propagation design. Accordingly, based on the bending theory and elementary mechanics, a method of calculating the SIFs of the different stress singular fields and the corner crack growth law of the special-shaped pipe are established in this article. The method would provide a unique view to the calculation of SIFs for similar cracked structures and the design of anti-crack propagation of pipes under earthquake load.
