Abstract

The weight function method is applied to obtain the stress intensity factor for a semi-elliptical surface crack in a circular edge notch subjected to polynomial loading on the crack faces. The crack region is considered as two sets of orthogonal slices superimposed such that the boundary conditions are satisfied. Numerical results are presented for different aspects ratios of the semi-elliptical surface crack in a notched semi-infinite region and compared with those found from the method of finite element.
