Abstract

In this paper, a stress-transfer model of an adhesively bonded piezoelectric pipe-joint system subjected to an axial tensile loading is presented. Based on the model, the computational formula of the shearing stress in the adhesive layer of the system is derived. The formula is employed to investigate the stress distribution in the adhesive layer. It shows that there is a large stress concentration at the two ends of the adhesive layer. The smaller the thickness and the larger the shearing modulus of the adhesive layer is, the larger the stress concentration will be.
