Abstract

A definition of stress and strain in granular materials is proposed considering contact couples and independent particle rotations. First the stress and strain and their relations in generalized continuum mechanics are reviewed, and regarding these expressions, a new definition of stress and strain for granular materials is introduced and the Hill’s condition for energy is discussed.
