Abstract

Stresses and displacements in circular cylindrical shells having square and rectangular lugs have been studied in this paper. The analysis presented here is based on finite element technique using 17-node doubly curved shell elements. Numerical computations have been performed for the case of longitudinal moments applied at discrete points around the circumference of the vessel. Four identical lugs uniformly spaced around a parallel have been considered. Results have been generated for several cases with different lug sizes and t/a ratios.
