Abstract

Stress analysis is of crucial importance in the design of components and systems in the electronic industry. The common problems are those of thermal stress and fatigue, handling, shock and vibration; adhesion must be adequate to insure composite action. Finite element methods predominate among the computational tools and must go hand-in-hand with experimental procedures to verify the results. Examples for analytical treatment are presented for various levels of packaging structures.
