Abstract

This paper models a procedure of experimental stress analysis and establishes a guide for potential users. The fundamental aspects involved in stress analysis and procedures for the determination of states of stress have been developed. As a result, field engineers are presented with a fundamental tool for rational and technical structural design which can be used for routine operations in the mining industry. A practical application of the work outlined is presented in terms of a case study. This study details work performed to determine the state of stress and stability conditions around the open stopes of both the Camflo and the Malartic Hydrage underground workings at the Camflo minesite, Val d'Or, Quebec.
