Abstract

The finite element method along with Lo-Christensen-Wu higher order bending theory is used for evaluating stresses and stress concentration factor due to a circular hole in fibre reinforced composite laminates subjected to transverse loads. The higher order theory used here is shown to give a stress concentration factor of reliable accuracy compared with the exact elasticity solution. The variation of stress concentration factor with plate thickness, hole size and nature of load distribution is presented.
