Abstract

This research presents an investigation through a numerical study on the effect of bracing for skylights columns in multi story building. Variable parameters were taken into consideration such as number of bracing, stiffness of columns, beam cross –section. Base shear force of the building, top displacement, story drift as well as bending moment and shear force on columns were estimated under seismic loads, and the obtained results were studied and discussed. In this case of study, number of stories was taken fifteen, total plan dimensions was 20×35 m2 with (4×5) m bay dimensions. The commercial computer program ETABS was used in the analysis. The results showed that skylight columns bracing has a significant impact on base shear force, top displacements, story drift as well as bending moment and shear force on columns for the different parameters taken into consideration.
