Abstract

Statistical analysis of the results of 180 experiments investigating the strength of brittle materials under triaxial compression is presented. The methods used and characteristics of the specimens, instruments, measuring equipment, and other variables were analyzed. Statistical analysis of results showed a logarithmic relation between the prism strength of the brittle materials and relative increase of the triaxial compressive strength. An empirical equation is developed which gives the maximum agreement with the experimental data. 5 figs., 1 tab.
