Abstract
Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) is an example of an incredible sociological and economic success. MMA events around the world attract the attention of millions and MMA athletes have gained the type of popularity normally associated with established sports and go on to become international sport superstars. An analysis of the pertinent literature indicates that MMA athletes often train several times a day, seven days a week which can mount up to 12 training units a week. The role of the S&C coach in MMA has increased with the sport’s increasing popularity. More athletes reach out to professionals in physiology, biomechanics and nutrition to help them prepare for future fights. Muscles use stored adenosine triphosphate (ATP), along with the creatine phosphate (ATP-PCr) system, during the generation of maximal power and frequency of strikes. Generating high forces in a short time is particularly important in combat sports.
