Abstract

Utilising the triangulation approach, this paper attempts to understand the various dimensions of gang menace in Guntur city in Andhra Pradesh. It explains and analyses the organisational structure of the gangs their size, characteristics, culture, activities, and modus operandi. It notes that the emergence of the underclass in our cities poses questions that cannot he answered entirely by 'courthouse criminology' or 'surrogate sociology'.
