Abstract

Base on three dimension (3D) finite element method (FEM), a electromagnetic model for a power distribution transformer is established. The core loss, stray losses in structural components are simulated, the effects of magnetic shunts on tank losses are studied, then compared with experiments. The core loss, the decrease of stray losses when using magnetic shunts are in accordance with experiments. Studies indicate that tank loss is the most impartment part of stray losses in this model, magnetic shunts are effective in reducing stray losses.
