Abstract

This paper discusses the production and properties of a new water-reducing admixture produced from alkaline treated straw pulp waste liquor. The development of the new material could help to eliminate the environmentally polluting black waste liquor of paper pulp, and also provides a low-cost by-product that can be wideldx-4 used in the construction industry. It could have important social and economic benefits. The new water-reducing admixture is produced by evaporation and sulphonation of the alkaline treated black straw pulp waste liquor. It gives a water reduction of over 8%, and the compressive strength of concrete could be increased by over 10%. n admixture complies with the relevant Chinese National Standard. Trial tests show that this type of water-reducing admixture can be further modified to become a high-range water reducer by use of a modifying agent.
