TWADDELL (Ph.D., Harvard) is Professor Emeritus of Linguistics and German at Brown Univ. He has served as chairman of the German Dept. at the Univ. of Wisconsin and of the Linguistics Dept. at Brown Univ. He has been a Fulbright Lecturer in Egypt and the Philippines and a consultant on teaching English in Japan and Turkey. He was president of the Linguistic Society and a member of the MLA Executive Council. He is the author of numerous articles and monographs and has collaborated on a student's edition of Faust and on high-school and college textbooks.
