Abstract

Three perturbations of the stratospheric tritiated water burden have occurred. An atmosphericnuclear detonation in 1980 injected about 2.1 MCi. The massive eruptions of the volcano El Chichon may have contributed to a doubling of the removal rate in 1982. An unusually largewintertime exchange with the upper stratosphere may have occurred between 1982 and 1983. DOI: 10.1111/j.1600-0889.1985.tb00044.x
