Abstract

The section through the upper horizons of the Precambrian of the South Urals, or more precisely, the Bashkirian anticlinorium, has been carefully studied by more than a generation of geologists, although the structure of some of its intervals has still not been finally established. This applies, in particular, to the deposits oc curring at the boundary between the Karatau and the Asha Series. In order to clarify the structure of this interval and explain the prob lem, let us first consider the very important section in the Krivaya Luka graben. The graben is one of the few sites in which the Vendian and the upper horizons of the Riphean have been observed on the eastern limb of the Bashkirian anticlinorium. This section is distinguished from that on the western limb of the Bashkirian anticlinorium by its completeness and adds substantially to it.
