Abstract

Terahertz reflective imaging is employed to reveal the detailed stratigraphy of a 17th century Italian oil painting on canvas. Terahertz sparse deconvolution based on an iterative shrinkage algorithm is utilized to improve the depth-resolution of terahertz imaging and resolve the overlapping echoes. The stratigraphic details are revealed based on the deconvolved signals, thus, enhancing the capability of terahertz imaging to perform detailed analysis and diagnostics of historical oil paintings on canvas.
