Abstract

The rapid economical and social development in Taihu Basin proposes higher requirements on flood control and public security. Current flood control situation in Taihu Basin is briefly analyzed. 1991 and 1999 rainfalls are more serious than 1954 rainfall, which is the current design standard. In addition, incessancy waterproof land use and water surface reclamation increase flood control difficulty. Taihu basin hydrodynamic numerical model is set-up, which consists of runoff module and 1-dimensional unsteady river network flow module. Based on present key projects, following the drainage frame of ‘northward to Yangtze River, eastward to Huangpu River and southward to Hangzhou Bay’, and considering storage and drainage ability as a whole, Taihu Basin flood control strategy is brought forward. Based on Taihu basin hydrodynamic numerical model, flood control ability of the planning works is evaluated. It shows that the flood control strategy can increase the ability of out-lake flood and reduce flood water level of Taihu lake and plain region substantially.
