Abstract

The first article considered definitions of concordance, highlighting the differences between concordance and non-compliance and non-adherence. This article will explore some of the reasons why patients and consultations are not concordant, drawing predominantly on the work of the Medicines Partnership. Four areas will be explored in detail: level of information given; concerns about side effects; costs of medication; and effect on lifestyle. Suggestions are given as to how nurses can promote concordance within consultations.
