Little attention has been paid to the comic strategies employed in Raimund's plays. His work reveals an emphasis on comedy of character and increasingly selective use of the strategies of Viennese popular comedy. In Raimund's most original work, comedy of situation and verbal comedy are derived from the potentially tragic character of Rappelkopf.
