Strategies for Wealth Creation and Independent Living of Persons With Intellectual Disability in Uruan Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine the strategies for wealth creation and independent living of person with intellectual disability in Uruan Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State. To achieve this aim, three research questions were raised and duly answered. Literature was reviewed according to the variables of the study. One hundred (100) respondents were randomly sampled in the study drawn from the targeted population of two hundred and twenty (220) using a simple random sampling technique. The instrument used in collecting data was structured questionnaire containing fifteen (15) items administered to the sample. The data collected was statistically tested using descriptive statistic correlation analysis at 0.05 alpha level. The result shows that there is a significant relationship between entrepreneurship education and independent loving of persons with intellectual disability, there is a significant relationship between environment and independent living of persons with intellectual disability, there is a significant relationship between environment and independent living of person with intellectual disability. Based on the findings it was recommended that government and other private bodies should assist to provide stimulating environment for wealth creating, information should be circulated on time for people to be aware of current changes and trends in the society, appropriate entrepreneurship education should be introduced in our educational from secondary to university level.
