Abstract

(J Clin Anesth. 2021;73:110302) Operating room (OR) efficiency provides many benefits to patients, surgeons, staff, and hosting organizations including increased OR capacity. A previous retrospective study identified cases performed with neuraxial anesthesia at university hospitals as having the longest mean duration for OR use. Efficiencies and quality improvements are of interest to hospital administration and obstetric OR practice optimization, particularly in large academic hospitals in cases with neuraxial anesthesia. Herein causes of inefficiency are identified, along with improvement practices, and assessment of their efficacy.
