Abstract
The goal of this paper is to describe an ideal faculty development program for the continuous quality improvement of the educational contributions of faculty members in medical education. First the literature will be reviewed to answer two questions: What have we learned about the power of various faculty development activities in effecting change in teaching practices?; What are the essential components of a faculty development program designed to improve teaching and learning in medical education? Based on the literature a developmental model for a comprehensive program of Faculty Development will be described.
