Abstract

Hypoactive sexual desire disorder and conflicts about intercourse frequency are the 2 major sexual concerns that bring couples to therapy. Rather than relying on traditional sensate focus exercises, this conceptual/clinical article presents strategies and techniques to directly address sexual desire problems. There were 3 sets of psychosexual skill exercises described with guidelines for implementation: (1) Employ core exercises to promote sexual comfort, attraction, trust, and each partner creating a preferred sexual scenario; (2) Build bridges to sexual desire; and (3) Develop a couple sexual style that promotes strong, resilient desire.
