Abstract

This article reviews Reidar Dale's doctoral thesis ’Organisation of Regional Development Work; Strategies and Management in District Integrated Rural Development Programmes in Sri Lanka’, presented (unpublished) at the Department of Geography, Oslo University, in October 1991, the present writer being faculty opponent. The purpose of the article is to communicate major points in the dissertation, which is likely to cause renewed attention to Integrated Rural Development in the Third World, and critically to review the thesis as such, particularly its methodological qualities.
