Abstract
The article presents the conceptualisation of one of the aspects of the strategie dimension of innovation: the choice of the method (strategy) of innovation activities carried out by enterprises. Two types of strategic decisions are discussed: the strategy of developing innovation and the decision of an already innovative enterprise choosing the way of further development of innovation activities. Original proposals of strategy models are presented against the background of innovation strategy models described in literature, and the method of their identification is illustrated using case studies of five Polish innovation enterprises.

Strategic decisions relating to innovation activities can be made in two different situations, or an enterprises life moments: when an enterprise which has not carried out any previous innovation considers undertaking such activities and chooses to take up a strategy of creating enterprise innovation, and when an enter prise already carrying out innovation activities chooses a way o f further innovation development
The lack o f good theoretical models hampers the formulation of hypotheses concerning innovation strategies of enterprises, factors differentiating these strategies, organisational and econom ic effects o f the implementation o f various innovation strategy models

A strategie dim ension o f innovation can be understood in two ways: as an innovation strategy o f an enterprise or as an innovation management strategy. Strategic m anagement literature provides many examples o f innovation strategies, from A nsoff’s diversification strategy, the concept o f strategic divergence, to the most famous blue ocean strategy. This aspect o f the strategic dimension o f innovation is not the subject of this article. The aim o f the article is to present the original concept o f strategic innovation management taking into account a critical review of literature attainments and to present the authors innovation strategy model verified for selected Polish enterprises. Inform ation on Qumak, Elektrobudowa, Rafako, Protektor and Asseco Poland companies will be used to illustrate model innovation strategies of enterprises
