Abstract

The vertical disintegration of firms’ phases and activities aimed at promoting technological innovation and, in particular, those aimed at developing new products and production processes, is a phenomenon that is taking shape and intensity never seen in the past. What are the factors that make it possible and, more importantly, what are the consequences on the scale of local systems in the relations between subjects and organizations, are the key questions of the paper. In particular, the paper analyzes the dynamics of relations between university and industry that operate in local innovation systems, with the aim to highlight the phenomena of co-evolution over time between these two subjects.
