Abstract
This case study details an evolution in blood draw practice at a US acute care hospital, informed by in-depth semi-structured interviews with hospital leaders. The comprehensive initiative included adopting a needle-free blood collection device followed by an innovative nursing practice model. The strategic shift enhanced device utilization, streamlined clinical workflow, facilitated better integration of blood draws into nursing care, and improved patient satisfaction and outcomes. Our summary illustrates the importance of considering both the technology and the practice model in quality improvement initiatives. Furthermore, we highlight important aspects of this initiative that led to success, to instruct other facilities.
